One week!

I can't believe I've made it this far. One week without drinking. I owe a lot to all of you here, and to the people from meetings who have given me their numbers. I've called someone every day.

I've wanted to drink every day. It's only been the past two or three days that I haven't felt sick. The fact that it's been so hard for me to stop, and that it made me so sick, makes me realize just how addicted I was/am.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart. You all are amazing and inspiring.

Congratulations on 1 week!!! That's a great achievement.

Just keep going one day at a time.

Scott -- that is so cool!  Thank you.

I'm going to two meetings today -- one near my office at noon, and one near my house tonight.  I'm starting to look forward to meetings.  I never thought I'd say that!

Very cool coin! How thoughtful!!
JC-I found at first, and still today , on my days off I was hitting two meetings a day! It gave me something to do to keep my mind busy and I learned so much! It helped that I wasnt afraid to share at first and people really got to know me. That helped in the fact that if I was having a really bad (or good) day, I could share honestly where I was at!

Don't Quit Poem
by anonymous

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all up hill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest! if you must; but don't you quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As everyone of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about
When he might have won had he stuck it out;
Don't give up, though the pace seems slow;
You might succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than
It seems to a faint and faltering man,
Often the struggler has given up
When he might have captured the victor's cup.
And he learned too late, when the night slipped down,
How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out;
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt;
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems afar;
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit;
It's when things seem worst that you mustn't quit.

I day at a time JC.

If the notion starts to come to mind as you start feeling better that ; "Perhaps I was rash, I don't really have a problem", Just ignore it, Your disease will miss you, thats just alcoholism talking to you. I tell myself something to the effect that thats a damn lie and struggle and pray and meeting till the end of the day. If it doesn't pass in one day, it'll probably pass the next of its own accord if you don't drink. Thats just my own experience of the first couple weeks.

Cunning Baffling and powerful. Its a clever adversery and you slipped around him for a week. :)

Congratts !!!  wink

Well done on your 7Days 1Day@aTime, Jc! I'm really proud of you. What a fight you've shown already & all the steps in the right direction. You're a real winner & you're doing us proud. Of course, you're doing all of this for yourself with extra reward for your family. I'm glad you're here & sharing your journey with us too. I know for sure MIP has helped to keep me sober in the face of impossibility. It's a miracle for any alcoholic to stay sober. As another member said to me & made me laugh in recognition ~ It's not a natural state for us to be in! That's why it can seem so hard at times. The only time it's not hard for me is when I'm grateful. So that's what I try to do. And that can be hard too. Especially with having such a resentful head sometimes! That's my desire for a drink trying to wiggle its way in. Cunning, baffling & powerful. You're doing great & your efforts are an inspiration for me too. Thanks for helping me to stay sober today too, Jc. Well Done! Danielle x
